About Us

Expertise, Pipeline & Vision

Recopharma’s core competence lies in the area of glycan structure and biosynthesis, and the impact of culturing conditions on these parameters. Our proprietary technology allows us to manufacture recombinant mucin-type fusion proteins and substitute beneficial saccharides for improved biomedical interactions. Our vision is to become a preferred partner to the pharmaceutical industry regarding the production, quality assurance and lead identification of glycan-containing biotherapeutics. Recopharma is operated under the ownership of LinkMed AB.

History – a multi-talented researcher saw a way to improve nature’s molecular adhesive

When Jan Holgersson left his native Sweden to pursue post-doctoral research at Massachusetts General Hospital, he was indulging a lifelong fascination with the mechanics and chemistry of molecular interaction. A multi-disciplinarian by nature, the young MD never dreamed his findings would soon form the basis of not one company but two. From his years in medical practice he was well aware of the shortcomings of many conventional pharmaceuticals. Through his research with Prof. Brian Seed he began to fully appreciate the bonding potential of sticky saccharides and recombinant mucin-type proteins to capture antibodies or improve molecular interaction with protein receptors. Recopharma was established in 2004 as a spin-off of AbSorber AB, a biotech company that concentrates on transplant diagnostics and therapeutics. Both companies are based on technologies developed and refined by Dr. Holgersson, who is today an Associate Professor at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.
